Colitis can be a debilitating condition, but recent research shows that flaxseed may provide relief. In a placebo-controlled study, 75 people with ulcerative colitis were split into three groups: one took 30g of ground flaxseed, another took 10g of flaxseed oil, and the third group acted as a control.
After 12 weeks, both flaxseed groups saw significant reductions in inflammation markers like hs-CRP and improvements in disease activity scores (Mayo scores). As a result, the quality of life for participants in the flaxseed groups improved significantly.
While this study was not blinded and awaits further confirmation, it suggests that flaxseed could be a safe and simple solution for those struggling with colitis.
